Grease Cups: An Essential Accessory for Your Exhaust Hood

exhaust hood commercial kitchen

It’s a given that you need an exhaust hood in any commercial kitchen. After all, a commercial kitchen needs to filter out dirt, grease, and other contaminants. Only a hood that’s capable of doing that is going to be good enough for that kitchen. But did you know that there’s an accessory that can make them even more effective?

Grease cups and grease trays are important

The most effective exhaust hoods are those that were designed to be able to incorporate components into its filtering system. One thing that can be incorporated into many exhaust hoods is a grease cup, otherwise known as a grease tray. The purpose of a grease cup or grease tray is filter out and collect the grease that was extracted from the interior of the exhaust fan system.

There are two main types of grease cups: Side mount and keyhole mount

A grease cup that has a side mount will have a little lip around the rim. That’s used to keep the container in place. It slides into a mount, or sets into a mount, which is attached to the hood. With a keyhole mount, there are two notches on one side of the hood. They allow the cups to safely attach to the hood and they use a 2-bolt locking system.

Maintenance of grease cups and grease trays is easy

Maintaining these cups or trays is a breeze. All you have to do is take them off their mount at the end of the grease trough, remove the grease, and clean the cups or trays with whatever degreaser product your kitchen uses. The fact that they are easily removable makes them a cinch to work with.

You can find options in these cups and trays

Whether you’re looking for the side mount or the keyhole mount, you can generally find these in two heights: 2-1/5 inches high or 4-inches high. You do need to find the right size for your particular exhaust hood system, but once you do you’ll notice the difference. These are especially effective in kitchens that have exhaust hoods that are constantly in use.
