Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a fire at the Mi Tierra Mexican restaurant at 4:30 a.m. at 337 S. Phillips Ave. after a passerby reported smoke coming from the building, according to a news release from the Sioux Falls Fire Department. Fire crews extinguished a smoldering fire in Mi Tierra's kitchen. There were no occupants in the building at the time of the fire and no firefighters were injured, officials said. Two businesses to the south of the restaurant also experienced heavy smoke during the incident. S.H.U.E.S. by Chelsea's Boutique posted a sign outside its door that it was closed due to smoke damage, and that any undamaged shoes would be available at Chelsea's Boutique, which is also on Phillips Avenue.”
NJ.com also takes a look at a kitchen fire in a recent article titled “Fryer fire burns White Castle kitchen in Linden, closes restaurant.” According to Tom Haydon of NJ.com, “The White Castle restaurant on East Edgar Road was closed today after a fire damaged the kitchen, officials said. Nobody was injured in the fire that was reported about 11 a.m., city Deputy Fire Chief William Hasko said. Firefighters who first reached the scene on the 2000 block of East Edgar Road found a fire in the fryer area of the kitchen, Hasko said. He said workers and customers had evacuated before the fire department arrived. The engine companies quickly knocked down the fire, containing it to area of the kitchen, the deputy chief said. Firefighters also searched the building to ensure everybody had gotten out, he said.”
