Kitchen fires can cause crippling amounts of damage. Consider a recent article for the Daily Telegraph titled “Kitchen fire shuts down Lynn Shanghai Cuisine restaurant in Castlereagh St, Sydney.”
Ben McClellan of the Daily Telegraph writes, “MORE than 100 people were evacuated from a CBD unit block after a restaurant fire sent smoke billowing through the city. A small oil fire started in the kitchen of the Lynn Shanghai Cuisine restaurant on Castlereagh St, near Park St, at 11.30am Tuesday. The amount of smoke the fire generated — which could bee seen rising through the city skyline — prompted a large response from firefighters. Only a few staff were in the restaurant but it was fully booked for dinner Tuesday night. No one was injured or treated for smoke inhalation.”
For more on kitchen fires, consider a recent article for the Lebanon Daily Record titled “Kitchen fire damages restaurant.” According to the author of the article, “A cooking fire at a local restaurant turned into a bigger problem Thursday when it spread to the building’s ventilation system and onto the roof. The Lebanon Fire Department was dispatched to Elm Street Eatery at 5:25 a.m. Thursday. When crews arrived, fire was visible coming from part of the ventilation system that maintains the hood system for the restaurant’s cooking surfaces, and there was also fire on the roof. Lebanon Fire Chief Sam Schneider said that fire began as a small kitchen fire on one of the cooking surfaces, which employees extinguished themselves. However, the employees did not realize that the fire had spread to the ventilation system and then to the roof until a passerby notified them that the building was on fire.”
