Fire suppression systems sometimes go overlooked by restaurant owners. This could be a grave mistake for both you and your business. Consider a recent article for the Mohave Valley Daily News titled “Fire damages restaurant.”
Rodd Cayton of the Mohave Valley Daily News titled “Black Bear Diner was closed after a Wednesday morning fire damaged the restaurant’s kitchen. A spokeswoman for the chain said the company is already working on a plan to re-open the popular eatery, at 1751 Highway 95. ‘The community of Bullhead City has made Black Bear Diner very successful for us,’ said Jolisa Johnson, corporate marketing director for Redding, Calif.-based Black Bear Diner Inc. ‘We look forward to opening again.’ Battalion Chief Bill Kinsey of the Bullhead City Fire Department said no one was on the premises when the fire started. The alarm came in at 3:40 a.m., Kinsey said. Police officers arrived first, he said, and saw the blaze ‘raging pretty good in the kitchen area.’ Kinsey said fire crews began with an offensive fire attack starting at the front doors. After firefighters knocked down that fire, they conducted a search and confirmed that no one was on the premises. Firefighters then noted that the fire, which originated in the kitchen area, had spread to the roof. Crew made holes in the roof and attacked that part of the blaze from above, Kinsey said. No firefighters were injured during the blaze, which was brought under control within 45 minutes, Kinsey said. The battle involved 21 BHCFD members and five apparatus. Bullhead City police provided traffic control at the scene and the Bullhead City Community Emergency Response Team assisted during the operation. Kinsey praised crews’ response to rapidly changing fire conditions. ‘The fire could’ve easily gotten away from us and destroyed the whole building,’ he said.”
