There is a lot you can do to get people coming back to your restaurant. However, not all of these things are necessarily a matter of marketing and presentation. Sometimes it is simply a matter of taking care of the little things that keep restaurants running without customers ever noticing. One of these aspects is having a quality fire suppression system. Consider a recent article for the Simcoe Reformer titled “Fire closes restaurant.”
Daniel R. Pierce of the Simcoe Reformer writes, “Three West Trends Bistro, located inside the Best Western Hotel in Simcoe, will be closed while its kitchen is rebuilt following a fire early Tuesday morning. The blaze was contained to the kitchen. The seating area and lobby sustained only minor smoke damage. Fire officials peg the damage at $150,000. Nobody was hurt. “We really don't know,” owner and chef Elliot Coelho said Tuesday afternoon when asked when the restaurant will re-open. “We'll know better when the contractor gets here in a couple of hours.” Coelho said he was insured and plans to rebuild. Firefighters were called to the Queensway West hotel at 2:13 a.m. after somebody smelled smoke and heard the fire alarm go off. The blaze was put out in about 30 minutes, said Norfolk County Fire Prevention Officer Scott Pipe. Cause is undetermined but is not suspicious, added Pipe. “We look at possible sources of ignition in an investigation. We start to eliminate possibilities. Sometimes you go through the list, and there are no causes left,” he said. Hotel occupants were evacuated temporarily and then returned to their rooms, Pipe said. Coelho moved his restaurant to the Best Western from another Queensway West address exactly one year ago to the day of the fire. The move was a success, said Coelho, and the bar part of the restaurant was ‘always full with guests and businessmen staying at the hotel.’”
